For over 30 years, 3M™ Scotchcast™ Powder Epoxy Coatings have been used to electrically insulate coils, transformers, and motors. Literally hundreds of millions of electric motors have been produced over the years with Scotchcast resin coating the armatures and stators. Today Scotchcast resins have expanded into new insulation applications such as magnet wire, bus bars, and torroid cores. The benefits of 3M™ Scotchcast™ Powder Epoxy Coatings are now available to manufacturers of appliance fractional horsepower motors and other applications requiring UL Electrical Insulation Systems recognition. Temperature ratings up to Class H (180°C) are available. Only 3M insulation systems are based on epoxy powder resin, and subsequently offer appliance motor design engineers access to the advantages of powder coating. No longer is traditional slot liner insulation the only option. Scotchcast epoxy powder resins are a series of one-part, 100 percent solids systems offering: Fast curing, Good electrical properties, Good thermal and mechanical shock resistance, Good cut-through resistance, High adhesion, Good chemical and moisture resistance, High to low flow characteristics, and Superior electrostatic coating capability. The resins are manufactured by a fusion-blend process which ensures that each particle of powder contains all the components necessary to effect a complete cure and attain the stated performance properties.
